Painting and linocut

In a succession of constructions and destructions, colours are superimposed in the thickness of the oil painting in which I work with a knife, drawing out, scratching, caressing it with large and violent as well as sweet and tiny movements.

This abstract painting is built like a palimpsest where the gestures would reveal the possibility of several spaces in one, opening the field of possibilities.

Superimposing the colours and venture to make disappear the previous one, temporarily or definitely. Then digging into the material thickness, and making possible the encounter of the visible and the invisible, by this process of destruction. Inmost and secret are thus present in each canvas…

Gestures are much more under control in linocuts where the removal of material needs precision according to the risk this technique is all about. One and only colour, one and only gesture for the printmaking, with no possible return. One and only shape given to sight.

Thus, these two mediums used in my practice, paintings and linocuts, are intimately and completely linked to each other and both serve the same purpose : to reveal what is hidden, as well as each of us look for a truth, for ourselves…
