Born in 1957, Philippe Barnier is graduated of Esthetics and Architecture. Multifaceted artist, painter, creator of ornamental motifs and a lecturer at the Center Georges Pompidou, Philippe Barnier is already a famous artist for his theoretical approach and his discourse as well as for the aesthetic beauty of his works. He also made the models for a monumental mosaic in Beirut and his works are regularly showcased in France, Sweden and the United States.

Philippe Barnier offers us a magnificent series of large paintings on the theme of the city of Tangier, mythical city where many famous writers and artists have stayed and which has inspired them. A city of Tangier rich of the colors of Morocco, its architecture and its contrasts that appear like a patchwork of fabric, a clever mixture of classicism, tradition and modernity. The city of Tangier, beautiful, lively and colorful.

Philippe Barnier works essentially by Series - playing with the repetition and the symmetry - around a certain number of emblematic and timeless objects or themes : Cities, Chairs, pots, fruits flowers, forests ... The serial process he uses reveals the real subject of his work : the painting and its ability to transform the moment into eternity.

Alongside his practice of painting, Philippe Barnier also explores the classical theme of the living model, capturing in the rapidity of the sketch the truth of this privileged moment of the meeting of the painter and the model. Sometimes these sketches serve as bases for paintings. In this enlargement and displacement of the fragility of the paper to the chassis, the subject is transformed; it is no longer the individual and the moment, but the essential establishment of a pure presence.
